Badaweya Woman's Project

SUSTAINING HERITAGE & CREATING OPPORTUNITIES

In collaboration with Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), Hemaya launched an initiative to empower Bedouin women by preserving traditional craftsmanship while fostering economic independence. Through a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with GIZ, this project provided women with hands on training in sewing, embroidery, and beadwork,  skills that are already deeply rooted in South Sinai’s cultural heritage, but need some refinements.

The sessions where held in the afternoon in the local kindergarten house (that is one of Hemaya's other projects). The program also introduced essential marketing techniques, equipping women with the knowledge to price, promote, and sell their handcrafted goods. To further support their them, the project incorporated yoga workshops, enhancing both physical and mental resilience.

By blending tradition with opportunity, this initiative not only safeguarded traditional skills from being lost, but also empowered Bedouin women to turn their artistry into a sustainable source of income.
