Empowering Cairo’s Street Children
WASTE SEGREGATION & SELF-DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOP
Hemaya, with the support of UNICEF, organized an 8-week training program to equip approximately 170 homeless children from the streets of Cairo with essential life skills. The initiative aimed to foster self-reliance, environmental responsibility, and personal well being through engaging in interactive workshops.
Street children often rely on waste collection as a means of survival, scavenging through garbage to find recyclables. By integrating them into structured waste segregation workshops, Hemaya provided them with safer, more hygienic methods to handle waste while teaching them the value of environmental sustainability. This approach not only helped them earn a better livelihood, but also contributed to cleaner communities.
The key focus areas:
-
Waste Segregation & Sustainability: Teaching children how to properly sort and manage waste, fostering environmental awareness and responsible habits.
-
Health & Hygiene: Providing vital education on personal hygiene, nutrition, and overall well-being to improve their daily lives.
-
Self-Empowerment & Life Skills: Encouraging confidence, independence, and essential skills for a brighter future.
By creating a safe and supportive learning space, Hemaya empowered these children to make informed choices, care for their health, and contribute meaningfully to their communities. This initiative reflects Hemaya’s commitment to education, sustainability, and social development, ensuring a better future for vulnerable youth.
